Songs of Many Days

Oh man, after my birthday, I went on a one-week birthday bash, and then things began to happen.

I took a trip to NorCal, not taking my life extension that is my laptop.  However, I kept a journal with me, documenting a song of the day for the past month or so (it hasn’t been that long but it’s pretty close.

Today, I have a day all to myself, so I will catch up.  Thanks for keeping posted!!

The Clash, featured on today’s song of the day.
Because…Paul Simonon…
And, ‘Rock the Casbah.’

What’s up?!! Today is my birthday, and given that I cannot modestly honor myself with a song of mine (because a singer I am not), I will celebrate with possibly my most favorite song of all time.  Lyrics are posted at the bottom… ENJOY!!

Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin’ to the top
The sheik he drove his Cadillac
He went a’ cruisnin’ down the ville
The muezzin was a’ standing
On the radiator grille

[Chorus]
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail

[Chorus]
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

Now over at the temple
Oh! They really pack ‘em in
The in crowd say it’s cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
The temple band took five
The crowd caught a wiff
Of that crazy Casbah jive

[Chorus]
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way

As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned to
The cockpit radio blare

As soon as the shareef was
Outta their hair
The jet pilots wailed

[Chorus]
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don’t like it
Rockin’ the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

He thinks it’s not kosher
Fundamentally he can’t take it.
You know he really hates it.

Sunday fun day.  No need to look up much, this song has come up on shuffle twice this weekend, so it’s begging to go on as song of the day.  Lyrics posted below. =)

Mine, immaculate dream made breath and skin
I’ve been waiting for you
Signed, with a home tattoo,
Happy birthday to you was created for you

(can not forgive from falling apart at the seams
Can not believe you’re taking my heart to pieces)

Oh, it’ll take a little time,
Might take a little crime
To come undone now

[Prechorus:]
We’ll try to stay blind
To the hope and fear outside
Hey child, stay wilder than the wind
And blow me into cry

[Chorus:]
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?

Words, playing me deja vu
Like a radio tune I swear I’ve heard before
Chill, is it something real
Or the magic I’m feeding off your fingers?

(can not forgive from falling apart at the seams
Can not believe you’re taking my heart to pieces)

Lost, in a snow filled sky,
we’ll make it alright
To come undone now

[Prechorus]
We’ll try to stay blind
To the hope and fear outside
Hey child, stay wilder than the wind
And blow me into cry
[Chorus]
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?

(can not forgive from falling apart)
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?
(can not forgive from falling apart)
Who do you need, who do you love?
(can not forgive from falling apart)
Who do you love
When you come undone?
(can not forgive from falling apart)

Link Wray, featured in tonight’s song of the “day.”
Lol. Whatever.

So many a-things happened today.  It was an all around music kinda’ day, until my shuffle setting played this tune.  Lyrics… for obvious reasons, will not be posted at the bottom today. =)

The Cure, featured in today’s song of the day. =)

Happy Friday!

I didn’t go into detail about things that occurred today in history, but I am planning on reading “The Vivisector” by Patrick White, which inspired this song by The Cure. =)

Lyrics posted at the bottom.  Enjoy!

We move like cagey tigers
We couldn’t get closer than this
The way we walk
The way we talk
The way we stalk
The way we kiss
We slip through the streets
While everyone sleeps
Getting bigger and sleeker
And wider and brighter
We bite and scratch and scream all night
Let’s go and
Throw all the songs we know

Into the sea
You and me
All these years and no one heard
I’ll show you in spring
It’s a treacherous thing
We missed you hissed the lovecats

We’re so wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully
Wonderfully pretty
Oh you know that I’d do anything for you
We should have each other to tea huh?
We should have each other with cream
Then curl up by the fire
And sleep for awhile
It’s the grooviest thing
It’s the perfect dream

Hand in hand
Is the only way to land
And always the right way round
Not broken in pieces
Like hated little meeces
How could we miss
Someone as dumb as this

I love you … let’s go
Oh … solid gone …
How could we miss someone as dumb
As this?

Happy birthday Jez Strode!!

Happy birthday Jez Strode.  If you love synthpop, new wave, or anything about the early weird 80’s… then you will at LEAST recognize today’s song of the day. =)

Lyrics are posted below.  Enjoy!!

Tongue-tied, (I’m) short of breath, don’t even try
Try a little harder
Something’s wrong, you’re not naive, you must be strong
Ooh, baby, try
Hey girl, move a little closer.
You’re

Too shy shy
Hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy
Hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy
Hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy
Hush hush

Modern medicine falls short of your complaints
Ooh, try a little harder
You’re moving in circles, won’t you dilate
Baby try
Hey girl, move a little closer
‘Cause, you’re

Too shy shy
Hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy
Hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy
Hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy
Hush hush

Bowie and half-brother Terry.
Both, featured in today’s song of the day. =)

On a day like today, Terry Burnes committed suicide by placing his body on railroad tracks and eventually being run by the passing train.
Terry was 47, half-brother of David Bowie, and schizophrenic.  A troubled mind is a mind to always observe… no one but the individual itself ever really comprehends how our thoughts become what they are.

This song was written and recorded by David Bowie, some say it was a way for him to express his feelings about the event.  No one ever understands.  Lyrics are posted below.

When comes the shaking man
A nation in his eyes
Striped with blood and emblazed tattoo
Streaking cathedral spire

They say
he has no brain
They say
he has no mood
They say
he was born again
They say
look at him climb
They say ‘Jump’

They say
he has two gods
They say
he has no fear
They say
he has no eyes
They say
he has no mouth

They say hey that’s really something
That you should get some time
I say he should watch his ass
My friend don’t listen to the crowd
They say ‘Jump’
Got to believe somebody
Got to believe
